Don’t Worry, You’ll be Safe Review

Don't Worry, You'll be Safe (Jack Bass Black Cloud Chronicles Book 4)

By Edwin Dasso

Don't Worry, You'll be Safe (Jack Bass Black Cloud Chronicles Book 4) by [Dasso, Edwin]
The story feels as if it could have been pulled right out of recent headlines…could it really happen this way? After reading this exciting medical murder thriller, you'll answer, "yes!"

After the murder of his wife and unborn child, Jack Bass longed for death. He welcomed it...until, Amanda, the lovechild of Lori Darden and him, entered his life. Still reeling from the pummeling life had handed him over the years, Jack shrouded his new life with his daughter in privacy, determined that the events of his past should not threaten his daughter.

Despite his best efforts to remain invisible, Jack is faced with a choice between protecting himself and his daughter or helping to save many lives of those that are being victimized for profit. Jack is again unwittingly thrust into a world of conspiracy and murder as he follows a trail of bodies along the Eastern US coast. What he finds at the end of that trail shocks even Jack.

Protecting his daughter, while chasing the tail of wickedness into dark and deadly corners, will leave only one man standing…

Jack knows that man must be him.

Book 4 in this medical murder mystery series.

MY REVIEW

Jack Bass suffers from PTSD. In recent years he’s lost his pregnant wife Janice, Amy a coworker, and Lori, a fellow officer that he was protecting. They were all three killed as retribution to Jack for foiling the plans of some very bad people who only cared about making loads of money, no matter who died from it. Now Jack has been drawn into the mystery of who is kidnaping homeless veterans, and having them turn up dead with an illegal drug in their systems. On top of that, this abomination to his fellow comrade in arms is causing Jack’s nightmares and PTSD to flare with a vengeance.

Even though this is book four in this series, I did not feel lost, because everything was recapped by flashbacks or otherwise. The character of Jack was easily likeable, and I even felt sorry for him and his situation. His surrounding characters were a good focus also. The plot was fast paced and interesting enough that I read it straight through in one day. I like the writing style of this author and will probably go back and read the first three books. I know that I’ll definitely continue the series, especially since this one ended cliffhanger style.

Dennis & Greer Review

Dennis and Greer: A Love Story

By Molly Gould

Dennis and Greer: A Love Story by [Gould, Molly]
A true story that encapsulates the horrors of war and the innocence of young love.
Buried in a trunk for fifty years, this long-forgotten tale, told through letters and journals from the war-torn Vietnam era, has been resurrected.

College students, Dennis and Greer, met and felt a spark just before moving to different states. Their witty correspondence through letters conjured a desire to meet again, but Dennis tried to keep his distance; duty is more important than love.

As the two embarked on their journey into adulthood and navigated their relationship against the backdrop of war, they were writing a love story that will span the test of time.
This nonfiction that reads like fiction is perfect for lovers of memoir, historical romance, and historical fiction.

...........................................................................
MY REVIEW

Greer met Dennis at Sunday school one day and it was love at first sight. They dated some, for a month or so, until Greer moved to California. She wasn’t sure of Dennis’ feelings for her, but she wrote him a letter anyway. Unbeknownst to her, he was writing at the same time. From that point on, they keep continuous correspondence going, all the while falling deeply in love and planning their future. Even so, there was always a black cloud hovering over them from Dennis’ wanderlust and sense of duty to serve for his country.

This was a love story told entirely through letters and journal entries. I could feel the depth of their love with each word written. I’m not a fan of poetry, and even though there was a good amount included, I didn’t mind because all of it pertained to what was going through their minds at the time. There was always the anticipation of what was going to go wrong with the relationship, as we know from the beginning, and that gave authenticity, as well as fear and expectancy to me. I thought this was a beautiful story of pure love and am truly honored that it was shared for everyone to experience.

The Secret of Being Together Review

The Secret of Being Together

By Tsafy and Amos Tsur

The Secret of Being Together by [Tsur, Amos, Tsur, Tsafy]

It’s time to address your problems as a couple.

Learn about a unique type of couples’ therapy as you embark on a fascinating journey through the world of couplehood. Become more familiar with your own relationship, improving and enriching it, as you find answers to the questions that have been troubling you. Take your relationship to a higher and brighter place.

Peek into the journeys of other couples

Each chapter describes the work of a different couple grappling with its own problems: in the sexual arena, demons of the past that threaten to overwhelm them, emotional intimacy, and addiction. You will be made to feel as if you are sitting in the treatment room with them, accompanying them on their journey, while simultaneously “meeting” and “treating” yourselves. Peek into the journeys of other couples, together with your partner, and then look inward at your own shared experiences.

Be guided by the eclectic approach of top professionals

On the Israeli bestseller list and enjoying critical acclaim from professionals in the field of couples’ counseling, the authors of The Secret of Being Together specialize in combining the conscious, sub-conscious, imagination, images, hypnoses, creation, energy, and intuition – as well as the principles of Buddhism and psychology – in their therapy work.

...........................................................................
MY REVIEW

The Secret of Being Together is a compilation of various couples who have overcome difficulties in their own personal relationships with the help of the authors. Every relationship takes different journeys at different times and for different reasons. Their belief is on the importance of there being a dream in every journey. Milestones should also be acknowledged, and perception is everything. A couple should think of themselves as three personas, i.e. each other and the relationship itself. And this relationship should be a priority. This is vital to keeping the relationship on a healthy keel.

I thought it was fascinating reading the tribulations of each couple and following their journeys. Their troubles could all be classified in the same category, but each were unique to each couple. Most of the time I couldn’t wait to find out if they would overcome or go their separate ways, as it was never obvious of the direction that would be taken.  I agree that the past must be worked out before the present and future can be examined. Also I, too, believe in the power of imagination. I liked how the authors included the reader by asking not to be sole observers, but to also examine your own relationship with the facts presented. And the part about John and the Holy Book was worth the entire read.

How to Catch a Mouse with No Cheese Review

How to Catch a Mouse with No Cheese: Real World Lessons and Experiences from an Entrepreneur

By Donnie P.

How to Catch a Mouse with No Cheese: Real World Lessons and Experiences from an Entrepreneur by [P., Donnie]
How to Catch a Mouse with No Cheese is written for people who either have been in business for up to a year or are interested in starting a business, but do not have money. It discusses five life-changing principles that will help you succeed. Each principle has its own basis for preparing you to get your business up and growing with no money. So whether you own a fledgling business or plan to start a business this is the book for you!!!

...........................................................................
MY REVIEW

In How to Catch a Mouse With No Cheese, the author relays his entrepreneurial experience of starting a business with no money, and expounds that the reader can do the same. He begins with explaining exactly what he did, and then goes on with how his first business failed, but from circumstances beyond his control. It was unpreventable, but his point was that it was successful, he just wasn’t mature enough to plan ahead. The take away was that you should always start your business with the foresight to plan an exit strategy.

I agree with following the five principals he laid out, faith, truth, self-awareness, self-discipline, and service. In following these tenets, you will start off with a strong foundation for your business. I believe that it will give you the added benefit of respect in the business world, something to strive for. I liked the author’s suggestion to make a reference notebook. This is something I’ve never thought of before. The things he described to put in it made complete sense. To me, this was the best advice in the entire book. That, and taking stock of your non-monetary assets. Again, that included things I never would have thought about.

Francesco Augustine Bernadone Review

Francesco Augustine Bernadone: A Brief History of Our Tomorrows (Love and Fear: The Future is Bucharest Book 1)

By Stan Faryna

Francesco Augustine Bernadone: A Brief History of Our Tomorrows (Love and Fear: The Future is Bucharest Book 1) by [Faryna, Stan]
Can you imagine the future? How about the second half of the 2020s? Maybe what you imagine is not how Stan Faryna sees it.

The Dollar and Euro have collapsed. The price of one avocado is like what you pay now to go to the movies. Hundreds of millions of gamers hustle in an epic online game competing against artificial intelligence and each other for prizes worth big money. Most of those gamers will be lucky enough to pay for their daily ration of beans and rice. Entrepreneurial players will pay their rent.

Can Francesco find windfall in a dark, dystopian and post-apocalyptic virtual reality game? Zombies, guns, machetes and permadeath in a game might seem inconsequential to us, but the cost of failure will destroy him. Left untreated, his much beloved wife will succumb to cancer.

There is more than a fast and exciting story going on here. Faryna nails three birds with one stone. His long-reflected insights will help some of us to live, love and grow with courage.

Beyond the realism of this tragic, near future world stage for Francesco's story, Faryna offers sharp insights into the human condition, the power of love, and hope. He does so with a nuanced irony and sensitivity that feels too true to ignore - if also difficult to accept. The author asks us to come to a higher place of self-understanding and action, but he does not throw down a gauntlet of big words and intimidating intellectual challenges.

...........................................................................
MY REVIEW

In 2025, the world is different. All classes of money have become obsolete. UNITS have become the world currency, and not easy to come by. With jobs becoming harder to find, or keep, the majority are making a good living playing a popular virtual reality online video game called Jacob’s Trouble. Like many others, Francesco is desperate, needing many UNITS for his wife’s cancer treatment. After he wins a super computer from the lottery, he tries to sell it but to no avail. So, his only other option is to play the game, even though he has little chance of winning.

This short story was a bit baffling to me. I am not very gaming savvy, so the technical details went over my head. Otherwise, I thought that it had a good plot with fledgling characters of different backgrounds. Like most zombie games, it involved horror and gore. I am not a fan of that, but I like zombies, so that was ok. There was an inspiring theme throughout that I appreciated, even though there was so negativity involved. I liked following Francesco as he maneuvered through his life. He was a breath of fresh air among the animosity surrounding him.
